Feedback Strategies

Image
The two articles I have chosen to review are Five Reasons to Stop Saying “Good Job!” and The difference between Praise and Feedback . He has five major points that he stops of which follow as Manipulating children, Creating praise junkies, Stealing a child’s pleasure Losing interest and Reducing achievement.   The two points that drew my attention the most were creating praise junkies this hits on the fact that kids are morphed into just going for the praise instead of working towards a good piece of quality work. This was good, because I think that is what is happening in the younger generation today. The second point of reducing achievement had some interesting points talked about how often times it is seen that kids that are awarded after a first task, often stumble on the next one. The Next article had three main points, Process praise, Praise and Personhood, Praise vs. Feedback. The first point talks about praising someone on the process rather than the outcome of wor...

Topic Research

Image
The topic I have chosen to dive further into is OU ghost stories. This topic has many stories that are possibilities to write about, but the three that I have chosen for this post consist of the following. The Boy skating on elm avenue, Hospital Haunting, and Tri Delta Girl. The Boy skating on Elm Ave would be a possibility for writing a story over. The boy was skating on elm ave when he collapsed, some thought he was struck by a car, while others thought he had an asthma attack. He rushed to Ellison hall where the infirmary was located, but this is where he died. But to this day the motion sensor lights turn on without anybody in the room, as well the elevator goes to random floors when no one is in the building. The Hospital Haunting is the second possible story for the story book. The infirmary was originally named Hygeia hall this one was based off the first story, but people claim to hear roller blades from the boy skating through the hall. He is also known to play marbl...

Week 3 Story: Fennley Skis

Image
You can find the current version of this story at my Portfolio Site linked below. Folklore With A Twist There once was a young store keeper his name was Eric Fennley. He lives in the small town of Frisco Colorado. He was the current owner of his family ski shop Fennely skis. His father opened this shop up when the town had just built the ski resort called Copper Mountain.   The dad sold hundreds of skis when he first opened. As time went on and on rival ski shops were built and business was taken from the original ski shop. Eric’s dad was growing ill and told Eric one day he would have to take over as the store owner. Eric ran by his dads’ side as store owner as his dad was getting sicker and sicker. One day Eric woke up for work and his mother said his father passed away in his sleep. Devastated Eric though of all of the things he didn’t get to say to his father before he passed. Eric mourned that morning but the more he thought about it, he knew there was only one thing his ...

Reading Notes: The Spirit of Achilles

Image
The story I have chosen to complete reading notes for today was the The Spirit of Achilles. I did not have any previous knowledge on this story but i did learn a little. One of the sections of this story that stuck out to me was when Achilles son of Peleus said the following. " If i could only return strong to my fathers house, for a single hour, I would give those who abuse him and his honor cause to regret the power of my invincible hands." This section was powerful, because he is pretty much saying anyone that had disrespected his father, he would put fear in their eyes and make them wish they had respected  his father. This could be turned into one weeks story easily by creating some characters and create a story like that follows this plot and takeaway. Reading Notes: Homer's Odyssey Part A

Image
The story I read for the Tuesday reading was the land of the Cyclopes. This story was a little hard to follow and form a plot for it, but this story was about where the cyclopes lived and their interactions with the rest of the islands. The cyclopes did not make a point to meet with their neighbors. The cyclopes are given everything on their island by the gods so there is no need for interaction with others, they have sheep for food, and they have an abundance of woods. This was a very interesting story that I am very intrigued with, and hope to read more about.
